Bikes - both motorcycles and pushbikes

MOTORCYCLES - today and yesterday

Do you still own a motorbike today or have fond memories of bikes owned in the past? Bikes have gone through some changes over the years, who can forget the choppers with the long handle bars from years ago.
What bikes have you owned and do you still enjoy riding?

PUSHBIKES - today and when you were kids

It is a very cheap way to get around, with no pollution and a great way to get some excersie. The pushbikes of today are a little different to the bikes you rode as kids. Remember the old dragstar bike with the long handle bars, the pride and joy of many a young boy.

Leave your comments about the motorcycles and pushbike you have owned. Are you still riding today?

The first bike my brother and I got was a Bantam, which we used as a dirt scrambler. We then went onto get a Niaychi (This was a purpose built scrambler, not sure of its origin, but its name was derived from Name It And You Can Have It) that is what we were told. Then my cousin and I got hold of an old Indian with foot clutch and suicide shift, riding it around illegally on back tracks etc as it wasnt licenced and nor were we.
From there I then bought my first real bike a Honda 125 dirt trail bike, and rode it on many trail rides and as a work commuter. After being married and my sons being born I sold my bike to my Bro in Law. After a break of approx 20 years and my boys got into bikes my interest sparked again after I was lent one of my sons Across 250 after he graduated to a bigger class. I have now got 2 Suzuki 1980 GSX1100 bikes that I have refurbished and ride.
Ride Hard Ride Safe and Ride with Full Noise.

I have had a 500, 750 and 1100 honda, a 400 yamaha, a 750 suzuki, a Triumph Sprint RS 955 and currently ride a Triumph Rocket 3 Touring, I will not be leaving the Triumph line of bikes anytime in the near future unless they really mess things up. We are currently lining up a Speedmaster for the wife ( not a 1950s model, does that count).

Anyway ride long and ride hard... :)

When I was born Dad had a Beeza Bantam. My first bike was a Honda 90 Sport!!!!. because Mum would not go guarantor for anything bigger. I pranged it on the way home from the dealer. Scariest ride was on an ExCop BSA 650. I didn't know the brake lever was on the wrong side. I nearly went through a fence at 60 MPH. I rode a Suzuki 350 for about a year then bought a TS 185 to commute through the city for work. BIG mistake. I was hit by a Telstra van that didn't stop at a stop sign and broke both arms one leg and got 2 spinal fractures. I now live in a big house paid for by Telstra and still love bikes and hope to buy a M109R Boulevard if my wife will allow it.

I got my bike, a CB100, as cheap transport to get to uni in 1975. It didn't last long but was enough to give me the bug and I never been without a bike since. I've had 18 so far, mainly jap but including a BM, a couple of 650 Beezas and a Sportster. At present I have 3 Hondas; an 83 VF 750. a 93 VFR and an 03 Firestorm. If the pattern continues I'll keep these 3 and get a new one in 2013. If the new Nortons are over here by then - then that'll be the next one - something to look forward to. I'm in the local Ulysses club (Bunbury) but thats 124 km away so I tend to ride locally with a bunch of locals.

Come on boys. We still get out in the bush when it's cold wet and miserable. Ride in the mud and slush and try to crack a wheel stand every now and then. We are not that old yet! Our mate who leads us for our ride is 73 years of age and still rides like the wind on a big cc trail bike!Thats our Sarge! If a big fat grumpy bloke like me can still do it so can you. I think I cracked three ribs, badly bruised my leg this year on a ride and still survived it. So this year I have purchased a farm and a Bobcat to put in a track for us to ""'RACE"""" on.
Thats what I like about our Ulysses Club we have still got the passion!

I bought my first bike at 15 with my first $10 note (unknown brand, 3 speed Sturmey Archer hand gear change, 2 stroke motor with an external flywheel and a rigid frame with Girder front forks) and have had a bike of some sort almost ever since, including a short time as a road racing sidecar passenger. Current ride is a K1100 BMW and like many I'm a Ulysses member, it's a fantastic social club. As I age and consequently become less physically able it may be a problem to handle and ride a large bike, I'm not a big person, when that time comes, I plan to get a lighter ride but to never give away riding. When able, we go away for weekends and I look forward to retiring in a few years to allow more time to ride this wonderful country.

Bikes are and have always been a passion for me.  First bike was a Triumph Tiger from the mid fifties. (should have kept that one)  I have had a whole range of Japanese, European and American bikes over the years but I currently have two BMW's and one Moto Guzzi in the shed at home.
I am a member of the Ulysses Club Inc which is a social club for motorcycle enthusiasts aged over 40 years.  There will probably be many on this forum who are members or know of people who are members.
My wife (born 1954 as well) also rides and we just completed a three month, 20,000 kilometre trip around Australia on our bikes.  Not bad for a couple of old farts.

Cheers,

Big Kev
