Has anyone done the costal shipping cruise up the coast of Norway?
Would like some comment.
Also would a week be long enough to see most things of interest in Iceland?

Great Eddie. We enjoyed self driving in Borneo too. Did you say gidday to the urangatangs? It is soo much cheaper and more fun doing your own planning instead of following the leader on a bus tour etc. The internet is fabulous for all info to go anywhere these days. Going to  Nicaragua and USA in January/Feb 2012 can't wait.

We have just done a trip to Sabah, North Borneo, doing our own thing.
Only booked the first couple of nights accom from home.
Caught local busses , taxis ,and got accom as we went along.
It is so easy to do and the people are so friendly and helpfull.
We did 24 days including airfares for the price that is being quoted for 9 days land only.
Try it.

My family always do self drive holidays and book flights and accomodation thru the internet. We have done many self guided tours and know the shortcuts for saving $$$$$$ Over 30 years we have travelled in Africa, Europe, Canada, driven in every State of America twice, Central America, Muscat, Tunisia, Turkey to name a few places. We have been to India, Vietnam and Japan but caught public transport. In Jan 2011 we went for 6 weeks to Argentina, Chile and Peru. My 3 adult children aged 24,22 and 19 always come and hope in the future will always want to travel even when they have their own families. If anyone needs any help or information on how to Just Go and Do It like we do just ask here. I always smile at the many people who always talk about going Travelling but never seem to go anywhere. What are you waiting for? Old age, no money, health issues, family matters the list is the same for all of us. We are addicted I guess but its what keeps us going when work gets us down.

Every school hols we would go either to my Aunty's farm at Bordertown or the other aunty's farm at Ardrossan on Yorke Peninsula. If we didn't go there, we would go up to Loxton North in the Riverland and stay on an Uncle's fruit Block.. Dad had just bought the obligatory FJ Holden. mum would stuff the pillows and blankets behind the front bench seat to fill up the gap and a blanket on the seat so 3 of us could spread out and not have to sit next to each other. Every 50 miles one of us would swap with the 4th kid in the front seat between our parents. That, strangely was something of a treat.
We would spend all day being bored and even though we would never admit it to anyone at the time, we would actually look forward to school starting again.

Have just returned from holiday in Ayers Rock very impressive, stayed at the Ayers Rock resort everything you need is there. Took a helicoptor flight over the Uluru and the Olgas what a sight, just amazing. There is nothing out there but desert and this huge rock is so commanding also went to Uluru-Kate Tjuta National Park and went to some sacred spots that are protected and beautiful waterholes and springs and then to walk around the rock after seeing it from the air is another experience.Went to the Cultural Centre to view Aboriginal art work excellant paintings and craft work. Then took a small aircraft flight for a couple of hours over the Kings Canyon and the salt lakes, witnessed wild camels roaming about and  to see the vastness of the desert is spectacular. This was a 4 day trip I think 4-5 days is enough to do and see what you want unless you want extra days to laze by the pools in the Resort.
