To mike and robyn and annie,
Although I was born in 1945 I remember Noel Watson, I particularly like his song about the 1948 FX holden. It brings back a lot of memories for me as my first car was an FX. Although I did not learn about love in its back seat, that was in the back seat of a Morris Minor!!!

Re: Noel Watson .... Noel sang his unique version of Waltzing Matilda on many auspicious occasions including the 1988 Grand Final at the MCG.
Noel is a veteran of the Aussie music scene having been a member of the legendary Thunderbirds , he is a noted songwriter having penned songs for Merv Benton in the '60's and was a guitarist with Merv & The Tamlas. His career was reinvented after John Faiman used his Waltzing Matilda in the closing credits of the ch9 Bi-centenial televison program in '88. Noel was a performer many times on Ray Martin's Midday Show . He also appeared on Carols by Candlelight.
Noel spent 20 yrs in the Australian Army and served his country overseas several times including Vietnam.
Noel and his lady (Ren) now live a quiet life in Central Vic after Noel retired due to health issues.
Noel's live shows were fabulous and with each song he sang was a story , some true , all hilarious.

I saw Suzi Quatro at centenial hall at the Adelaide Show Grounds about 1972 and the original cast of Jesus Christ Superstar at the tennis centre at Adelaide Oval (not sure of the year). Back then it was a big deal, we also used to have Hoadleys Battle Of The Sounds with bands from all over Australia would compete against each other. I love listening to Gene Pitney, Roy Orbison , Bee Gees and Del Shannon.

I have bought a few new CD's lately and I am enjoying listening to some of the great artist of years ago.  I have discovered Helen Shaprio and her unique sound.  The 30 songs on the CD make good listening.  The Everly Brothers, Ricky Nelson and Del Shannon CD's are also getting played a lot.  It is fun to look through the CD's on sale and finding a few memories from the past to take home.

I SAW THE BEATLES. I did, really. I was 12 and Mum graciously allowed me to have the morning off from going to Sunday School so I rushed to the corner of Marion Road and Anzac Highway in Adelaide. I, with hundreds of others waited for what seemed hours till the police closed this major intersection and there they were. I had waited for SOOOO!!! long to see them, I knew every song and chord change that was released. And what did I see, the back of the substitute drummer's head. Still, at least I was there when they went past.
PS I stil remember all of the songs.

Yes Robyn,
that sounds like the picture on the front of the CD!  I only ever heard the one CD and just loved it, I copied it to a cassette but would really like to get the CD as the tape is getting a bit past it's use by date now!
No one else seems to know who I am talking about though!

There is a name from the past - Noel Watson.  I grew up and lived in Victoria for a long time and remember the name.  He sung bush ballads and had long beard if we are thinking of the same singer.  I seem to remember her sang maybe the National Anthem? at a big event one year and perhaps came from around Maryborough way.  Anyone else remember him! ! !
