Musicians

When did your interest in music begin?

Did you play an instrument or sing years ago? Perhaps you learnt to play the piano as a child or went to singing lessons. As a teeneage were you a member of a rock band or maybe just enjoyed performing with friends?

Leave a comment about when you first became interested in music.

Are you still playing music today?

You may play the piano at the local retirement village, belong to a Pipe band, sing in a choir, perform solo or play in a band at the local pub. Did you play an instrument years ago and hope to take it up again when you retire?

All you talented musicians leave a comment as it would be great to read about what you are doing today.

I love music. I played a recorder in primary school and later learnt keyboard for a couple of years, but stopped practice regrettably. I loved blues music among other genres such as folk, world music, some coutry and rock, ambient music in mornings. I was privy to my now x partners thousands of cd's in a remarkable collection and have listened to some amazing artists over the years. I realised the diverse influences from all types of music that overlap often within genres. Some of my all time favorites are blues Keb Mo, Guy Davis, country blues The flood and Kevin welch, Kieran Kane. Who's heard of Greg Brown, Luca Bloom, a wonderful world band named Tinariwen and Los Lobos have unique sounds. Tim Buckley has the most amazing voice. Old timers like Leonard Cohen and Muddy Waters. young talent like Ash Grundwald, Sal Kimber, Rosie  Burgess Trio. Music is good for the soul and a vital part of life in any culture. I have been fortunate to have so many wonderful listening and dancing hours

Never learnt to play an instrument but nevertheless just loved my music and have a great collection of vinyl and about 500 GB of music in ITunes. Grew up in that magical time of music in Australia, the late 60's and the 70's. Axiom, Masters Apprentices, Daddy Cool, Billy Thorpe, Blackfeather, Railroad Gin, Country Radio, Carson, Phil Jones and the Unknown Blues, Buffalo and the list goes on and on. That was great music from those years. And all the stuff from overseas that we grew up on in the seventies, still collecting it. Am involved with community radio on T T T 103.9 doing a Blues show on Tuesday nights and doing as much as we can to promote our local musos, sadly the live venues are not what they were back in the seventies. Still lots of great talent out there in the Aussie community, just got to find it and give them some airplay.

The comments from John from Gawler SA reminded me of nights at the Largs Pier when Barnsey and Cold Chisel were at their loudest and probably their drunkest but man they were good. In earlier days I worked with a man named Brian who told me his son was in a band and he used to be a roadie for them. Who remembers Darryl Cotton and ZOOT in their pink suits. Also Adelaide groups Inside Looking Out, 5 Sided Circle and James Taylor. Good memories of dances at the church hall in Christies Beach until the elders of the church in their wisdom decided that it was a bad image for their community and so the dances there were no more.

Started playing guitar at age 10 and started first Rock Band in 1964 called the Black Pearls in melbourne.
I have since performed Rock and Roll in Magnum, Country in Stone Canyon and Sundance, then 50's Rock and Roll in Flashback and Shadoogie and during that time supported many international artists such as The Platters, Buddy Knox, Johnny Chester, Franky Davidson, Franky J, and many more.
I currently live in sunny Merimbula and still perform in Shadoogie, second generation, and also Run the annual Sapphire Coast Rockin' Rodders Dance Festival.
Having a 32 Ford Hotrod, I also combine hotrod ding with the whole 50's nostalgic scene.
I play Strats, and Gretch's and also indulge in Home recording.

Grew up in Smithfield/Elizabeth SA, Had the best upbringing, every weekend it was which band do we see or watch rehearse.
Cold Chisel or Orange as they where called in the early days, the Angels, Scandal or maybe Swanee. I have always loved Aussie music and I have played guitar for a long time and been in a few bands, mainly inspired by these guys or the greats The Beatles Elvis etc.
Will not change anything for the world and I have made some great friends who still play something. Look forward to when Barnesy or Swanee come and play the area.

Just mad about prog-rock - comes from being a teenager in the 70's - like Yes, Kansas, Led Zep, Deep Purple to contemporary bands like Dream Theater, Frost*, Spock's Beard.  Doing another original prog rock session/album later in the year - if you're up for it, guitarists and bass-players needed!

I sing numbers for the fifties upwards.
Patrick Mansfield was an entertainer back in the seventies around mainly New South Wales.  Patrick Mansfield you'll die laughting, anyone remember?
We mainly do Senior Citz'z and Retirement Villages around Adelaide and Country areas.
We love the fact that we bring an hour ot two of fun and singalongs to the audience and they have a fun time for a few hours.
